How Long Does an Apostille Take in Massachusetts? Planning Around Your Deadline

APOSTILLE GUIDANCE · CHECKED OCTOBER 14, 2026

You have a document, an overseas deadline, and a new word in your vocabulary: apostille. Naturally, the next question is, “Okay, but how long is this going to take?”

The short answer: Massachusetts currently lists two to three weeks to process mailed requests. That is not a door-to-door delivery promise. Allow additional time for document preparation and travel in both directions.

Before anyone promises you a finish date, we need to talk about what is actually ready—and what still needs to happen.

The timeline has more than one moving part

Think of your deadline as a sequence: getting the right document ready, submitting it, government processing, and getting it back to the person who needs it. Faster shipping can shorten one part of that sequence. It does not speed up every other part. Paperwork, unfortunately, does not respond to panic the way we wish it did.

Mail processing versus counter service

The Secretary of the Commonwealth publishes different arrangements for counter submissions: up to three documents per customer may be handled at the counter; four or more are collected after 3 p.m. the next business day. Documents dropped off after 4 p.m. require next-business-day pickup. Regional-office limits and turnaround may differ. Check the current state guidance before making plans.

These are government-office procedures—not a promise that EmilesGroup offers same-day pickup, counter filing, or same-day completion. Our standard coordination package uses mailing. Any alternative logistics would need separate confirmation before booking.

Start with the deadline that actually matters

“I leave next Friday” and “the receiving office needs the original next Friday” are different situations. When you ask about service, explain who must receive the completed document, where it needs to go, and the latest acceptable arrival date. If the recipient has written instructions, have those available.

Also tell us whether you already have the document in hand. Waiting for a record or a school to prepare paperwork is a separate step from apostille processing. A shipping upgrade cannot fix a document that is not ready to submit.

Why the document type matters

A diploma and a vital record do not necessarily follow the same preparation path. The state's brochure explains that Massachusetts school records generally involve the registrar certifying the record before a notary. It also says out-of-state school records cannot be certified in Massachusetts. The destination's requirements still need to be confirmed with the receiving authority.

For more focused guidance, see our Massachusetts diploma apostille article and birth certificate apostille article. Getting the right starting document matters more than finding the fastest-sounding advertisement.

What does the $225 service include?

EmilesGroup's existing Massachusetts apostille coordination package is $225 for one eligible document. It includes the $6 state fee, standard tracked submission mailing, and one standard tracked U.S. return shipment. The package price is our coordination service price—not the government fee alone.

Pickup, shipping upgrades, additional documents, and other services are separately quoted. Government processing, issuance, and acceptance by the receiving organization are not guaranteed. Check the apostille service page for current scope and the pricing and booking policies before confirming.

Need help planning around your deadline?

You do not need to arrive knowing all the terminology. Start with the document type, where it was issued, the destination country, and the required arrival date. Please do not send identity documents or sensitive records through a general inquiry form.

EmilesGroup LLC is based in Franklin, Massachusetts. Request apostille coordination availability so we can discuss the logistics and confirm whether the request fits our service. We will not label a deadline guaranteed just because it is urgent.
